This priory in North Yorkshire is the ruins of a community of Augustinian priors , the scenery is stunning and the priory is in a quite location.the priory is full of history and is a lovely day out for young and old ,it has only a small shop and a vending machine if you need a coffee . There is a toilet . Well worth a look.
You have to love how well presented things always are at an English heritage site. It’s set on the top of a hill overlooking Scarborough which Is an amazing view. The priory has a small cafe on site at the of the site and a shop at the entrance/exit. the access for disabled is quite unique they clear the road ahead and you drive up to the top through the gate and park next to the cafe. The staff were very friendly and as ever knowledgeable. It’s always a pleasure visiting this amazing English heritage property’s.
On first sight this abbey looks nothing special, but once through the old ruined gatehouse, the site opens up and the size of the abbey layout is revealed. Set beside a lovely river with walks all around it is really special. Perfect for picnics with benches and tables and fresh coffee from the entrance booth, it's a lovely place tucked away just off the A64.
Friendly staff, lots to explore, picnic benches and benches throughout, perfect for a family day out.
Be sure to check the website for opening times as the dates and times are seasonal.
Free parking, clean bathroom, child friendly and dog friendly
We stumbled upon the location by pure accident on the way to our hotel for the night, we went the following day, so much history tucked away and such a beautiful location, the member of English heritage staff was a gem and a benefit to the english heritage.
The history and site are fascinating.
Peaceful ruins of a priory in a beautiful setting at the junction of the Howardian Hills and the Wolds. We were lucky enough to visit on a warm sunny day so spent over an hour there but on a not so nice day you could be in and out in 20 mins…
The staff were great, very friendly and informative and a small but decent selection of snacks and drinks were available.
Stopped at Kirkham Priory to admire the archaeology. The ruins were spectacular and it was easy to imagine it as a whole building from the displayed descriptions. While we were there it hailed and you could see how harsh life would have been. Great visit!
Such a pretty place. The ruins and landscape make a beautiful combination.
We passed by in a rush so didn't get in but still get beautiful views, especially across the bridge. There is some convenient parking nearby as well. Do not miss it if are close by!
